Duncan turned back to Kelly and walked over to the bed. She looked up at him, and her eyes finally focused. “Duncan? Where am I? I feel so strange.” He sat down on the edge of the bed and took her hand in his. “You’re in the hospital. You had an accident. You’ll be fine. As soon as they let you go, we’ll go home.” She looked at him. “Oh, that would be nice.” She leaned back against the pillows and soon she dozed off. Duncan looked around and finally found a stool which he pulled over next to the bed and he sat down. He watched her and realized that he felt that familiar tingling behind his eyes telling him another Immortal was near. He looked over at Kelly and sighed. This was going to be a long day. About twenty minutes later the doctor returned, shaking his head. He saw Duncan and approached the bed. “She is one very lucky girl. Looks like she escaped any serious damage, although I’ll never figure out how.” He looked at her and said, “sleep is probably the best thing for her. She had a bad scare. I’d prefer to keep her overnight, but we had a huge pile up on the highway and we’re going to be short on beds tonight. Since she seems to be OK, as soon as she wakes up you can take her home. I’ll write a prescription for pain killers since she will probably be bruised and sore for several days.” With that he pulled out a pad of paper and scribbled something on it. “You can fill it at the pharmacy window around the corner. I’ll have the discharge paperwork brought over.” Duncan nodded his head and took the paper the doctor gave him and put it in his jacket pocket. The doctor left the room and he turned back to look at Kelly. And his mind drifted back in time to a conversation! he had had with Connor at his wedding to Kate. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo! DSL - Now only $29.95 per month!
