Just then Kelly came back into the room wrapped up in a fluffy blue bathrobe and barefoot. “God, that smells DELICIOUS.” She sat in her usual chair on the left, and he passed her a plate filled with Kung Pao Chicken and steamed rice, then set a glass of white wine in front of her. She picked up her fork and ravenously tucked into her food. Duncan picked up a plate of his own, and sat down at the chair at the head of the table, and watched her eat. He picked up his wine and sipped it, then cleared his throat. “So, how do you feel, other than starved?” She swallowed and looked up at him. “It’s weird, I feel GOOD. I would think I’d feel SORE at least. I mean, I *was* hit by a car. Oh well, must just be a freaky piece of good luck”. She shrugged then continued to eat. Duncan ate in silence, still brooding over what he was going to say. Finally, after three helpings of food, Kelly sat back in contentment and sipped her wine. Duncan looked at her and saw her eyes take on a shrewd ! look. Uh-oh, he thought to himself. If I don’t get this started she’s really going to be upset. He pushed his chair back from the table and picked up his wine glass. He offered her his hand, and when she took it, he helped her up then led her to the living room, and sat down on the sofa. She sat down, and he got back up to go get the wine from the refrigerator; he had a feeling she would want it. He came back and sat down, putting the wine in front of them. He clasped his hands in front of him, head bent over them. He sighed then looked up at her and sat back and turned so that he was facing her. He looked at her for several seconds, and then finally he opened with, “Kelly, we really need to talk. I have something to tell you about me, and you are most likely not going to believe me. Please hear me out and try to keep an open mind.” Her face had paled, and he wondered what she *thought* he was going to tell her. “You’re married?” she whispered. His face registered shock. “No, I’m not married. It’s nothing like that.” Her face got a puzzled look on it. He took a deep br! eath. “Kelly, I’m over 400 years old. I was born in 1592 in the Scottish highlands. I died when I was 32 years old, and discovered that I am immortal. There are more like me…and you are one of them.” Her face as he had spoken had gone from distressed to disbelieving to looking at him like he was crazy. Which, he supposed, he probably sounded to her. She didn’t say anything. For seconds that stretched into minutes she just stared at him. Finally, he said, “Kelly? Did you hear me?” Finally she shook her head. “Did you just claim to be over 400 years old and try and tell me that I am too?” He sighed. “No, I didn’t try and tell you that you are 400 years old; I told you that you are immortal, that you cannot die. And yes, I AM over 400 years old.” Kelly got up and paced in front of him. “Are you trying to make me angry with you? This is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard, and it is beneath you, Duncan MacLeod.” Tears glimmered in her eyes. “You know, you made yourself very! clear last night. You don’t want to live with me. And I’m not stupid. You may *say* you love me, but obviously you are trying to get me to leave. Fine. I’m going. But don’t try stupid tactics. We’ve always been honest with each other, and it doesn’t need to end nastily.” She started to head to the bedroom, and a sob escaped her. Duncan got up and strode over to her. He put his hands on her arms and turned her to face him. She had tears streaming down her cheeks and such a look of hurt in her eyes that he winced. “Kelly, I DO love you, you have no idea how much you mean to me. This ISN’T about our living together. This has to do with your accident today and the fact that it changes everything. I am NOT crazy, I am NOT making this up. Please, will you come back and listen to me? Please?” She sniffed and shook his hands off her arms. Then she strutted back to the sofa and defiantly flopped down and glared at him. “Well?” she demanded. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo! DSL - Now only $29.95 per month!
