See...this is what I don't get about slash even after over 15 years ...
Sheppard/McKay????????? In what universe would those two be attracted
to each other? (And don't say Pegasus!). I'm not saying it's "wrong" to
slash them - only that I can't see any reasonable situation where they
would be interested in each other (and *not* because they have both been
shown to like women). They just strike me as an unlikely pair to decide
to bugger each other (unless Rodney was conducting a
universe-shattering experiment and Sheppard was under the influence of
      alien drugs ) <eg>.

Wendy (I think Carson/Ronon sounds right)(If I was interested in such
      things.)

I think I read that one. No, I'm not kidding. :)

But... I honestly think slash - and the characters you think should be
      slashed
      - is in the eye of the beholder.

For example, when you suggested Mitchell/Sheppard, I was just like, "No
way!!" Same with O'Neill/Daniel. I mean, I've read hundreds of
      O'Neill/Daniel
stories and although the stories themselves are good, I just don't get that
pairing. Honestly, it's just a personal thing. Can I tell you why
      McKay/Sheppard
and not O'Neill/Daniel? Not really. I just like one pairing more than
      another.

It might be the personalities of the characters, whether I myself think
      they "mesh"
or not... who the hell knows.

I guess it's sort of like Star Trek... one of the actors said the best
      reason he had
heard for why it was so successful was... "Because people like it."

I don't see the point of trying to explain more than that... because
      when I do,
someone says, "But what about...?" and then I realise that's not it at
      all. I just
like slash. And that pairing. Deal with it. :-P

I'm behind, too. Does the show still air? When? I haven't seen it listed

No, it's only starting sometime in the New Year. There's one
station in Canada airing new Atlantis episodes (but they left
      one out, darn them!) though.

True. But I suppose I can't help trying to see what makes any given
      pairing attractive to someone.

      I think that is what I don't "get" about McKay/Sheppard - I don't see
their personalities as messing at all. But that's just me <g>

      > I just like slash.

      We know :-)

      > And that pairing. Deal with it. :-P

I can deal. I just wondered what about it made you go "ah ha!". I
      mean......why? I could watch HL:TS and , while I didn't agree that
Methos/Duncan was realistic in terms of on-screen canon, I could see why
the two characters would lend themselves to slashing. The two had
chemistry <eg> I just don't see any of that chemistry with McKay and
Sheppard. But what do I know?

I just thought the caring Scot and the world-weary warrior might find
some opportunities to comfort each other. A few bandages, a back rub,
some alien scented oils and who knows what might happen? I can see
Zelenka/McKay..they have one of those "Moonlighting"
relationships..hate.... hate.... hate...wild sex on the floor ..hate....
      hate...

Nah, I don't care what other people like. I mean, some people want
to slash Bodie and Doyle from The Professionals and I think they're
insane! I've had "why they're such a purrrrfect couple" explained to me
over and over, and nope, don't see it. Never have, never will. But
they can think that if they like; it doesn't affect my enjoyment of the show
      in the least.

       >I think that is what I don't "get" about McKay/Sheppard - I don't see
       >their personalities as messing at all. But that's just me <g>

So... the fact that they play games together off-duty, hang out in each
other's rooms, try to sabotage each other's romantic relationships, and
      fight
like they're married... this doesn't work for you? <g>

I guess it's the way TPTB choose to show "male bonding" on screen. In
certain shows, with certain characters, the way it's done makes me think
that, if you replaced one of the male characters with a female character,
everyone would immediately think there was something between them
(did I just quote Peter Wingfield? <g>). But because they're both guys,
      *gasp*, no, that's not possible!!

       >I can deal. I just wondered what about it made you go "ah ha!". I
       >mean......why?

I've tried to explain this before, but shall I try again? No? Too bad; you
      asked!

It's never the particular characters *on screen* that make me like a
pairing: it's a type of *story*. It's that one long, angst-filled story
      where
each character has to overcome their own issues and obstacles (fear
of being thought of as gay, regulations, fear of relationships in general,
whatever) and in the end they become a couple - hot monkey sex
optional (but I quite like it if it's in the story).

It's that one story that provides the motivation for every *other* story,
if you see what I'm saying. After reading *that* story, a person suddenly
"gets" that pairing, and then the pairing seems quite natural. It's only
      THEN
that one finds "slashy bits" in the show. At least, this is how it works
      *for
me*. It might be different for other slash fans, but I've already said I
don't really care about how it works for others as long as they keep the
      slashy goodness coming!

       >I could watch HL:TS and , while I didn't agree that Methos/Duncan was
       >realistic in terms of on-screen canon, I could see why the two characters
       >would lend themselves to slashing. The two had chemistry <eg>

Oooh, don't bring up the "c" word!! But I do get your point. I, however,
only "got" the Duncan/Methos pairing after reading the "Dark Into Light"
series by Kellie and Julia. In point of fact there was a story (second
      part?;
can't remember; haven't read it for years) in that series in which there was
a threesome with Duncan, Methos and a female character. And I got so
engrossed in the story I was just waiting for them to realise they didn't
*need* the female character. I wrote to Kellie and said, "But they should
have got together, just the two of them! You're keeping me in suspense!"
And she wrote back and said that it was too early for that, but wait. Later,
when I read the third (or whatever; can't remember) story "Daybreak" (or
something - it was like a decade ago, okay) and they finally *did* get
together, I was thrilled, and that pairing became real to me.

       >I just don't see any of that chemistry with McKay and Sheppard.

You must not be watching the same show I am. Actually, I'm not sure if
any two fans ever watch exactly the same show!

       >I just thought the caring Scot and the world-weary warrior might find
       >some opportunities to comfort each other. A few bandages, a back rub,
       >some alien scented oils and who knows what might happen?

After you said that in the other post I had this flashback to "Runner" where
Carson is like, "You have to take your shirt off" and Ronon didn't want
to, and Carson still wasn't intimidated... please, please, don't do this
      to me,
Wendy! Either write it or don't bring it up! My brain is melting here!!

       >I can see Zelenka/McKay..they have one of those "Moonlighting"

Nah. They're more like fighting siblings. And Rodney really does respect
Radek. He even said so in (I think) "Tao of Rodney".
