Ok..I somewhere somehow got the idea that it was the Korean War. My bad. But...still...if the Navy knew he was gay, he'd still be out of the service. "Don't ask, don't tell" doesn't stop the military from bouncing all the gays it finds or suspects. And they certainly don't get second chances. Since the film maker says that he can easily make two versions of the movie - one gay, one not gay- the gay story line must be minimal. So...as Nina wonders..why do it at all? Or, why *not* just do it? Is there a big market for action movies with a few minutes of gay subtext? Does the director think a bit of gayness is trendy? What's the point?
