What is interesting about that line is how it contradicts several other times in the series, when an Immie is discouraged from fighting or at least taking a head, because the other Immie's ally is near enough to step in & then BH _him_ while still weak from the 1st Quickening. Guess RR really _was_ a crappy swordsman. >I still maintain > that the key to defeating Kantos had nothing to do with earplugs, and > everything to do with Duncan’s restored faith in himself. It is a > recurrent theme that we see in this episode, again in the AAA arc and > even in the final episode of the series. That was a recurrent theme for the ENTIRE series, as DM is frequently shown both in flashback & in the present, to be unsure of his right to live after various actions he took, as well as of the desirability to keep on living despite inevitable pain & loss. Sure, DM was a bit down as of the start of season 5 due to the Watcher blow-up & Joe, but relatively speaking he had faced & survived far worse & he would do so again--repeatedly (the Horsemen, those annoying BKCs that tried to steal his show, Ahriman, & finally O'Rourke). The key to surviving the very last episode may have been restored faith in himself, but Kantos was defeated by logic & clear thinking (on DM's part--NOT Cassie's). And earplugs. True. I really, really liked Cowboy Bebop. That could be okay. Or something like Samurai Jack, except with kilts. ;) -- Ginny RED57@aol.com Fresh out of .sig lines ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 4 Sep 2004 02:58:13 -0400 From: Helva Peters <HelvaP@compuserve.com> Subject: Season Five dvd Commentary: Prophecy from Nina (MacWestie): > As a practical matter, it doesn't work for the show to have specific > abilities or even philosophical inclinations passed from Immie to Immie via > Qs. For one thing, most BHd Immies are evil--so, you'd have your hero > regularly picking up nasty habits & attitudes just about every episode. Valid point, although Our Noble Hero can be covered this way: There have been several times when we have seen Duncan doing kata/meditation after a Quickening. Given his martial arts focus, it would be a small leap to assume he routinely meditates after a Q to center himself -- to sort out what he wants to keep near the surface, and what he wants to bury or completely discard. Since he has had 400 years of practice, he may even be able to do some of that _during_ the Q; there are times when he looks like he's trying to reject it. Now -- did he pass that on to his student, or was Richie deliberately letting his headhunting escalate his attitude problem? > And, who really wants to see, say, Kristin's fashion sense come out in > Methos? Not me, but in 5,000 years, the ROG has probably developed his own method(s) of sorting thru a Q. Maybe Garrick was bonkers because he _didn't_. So who else have we followed thru several Q's? Or does the money end up drifting away to > someone with a script, a cast and a start-date? My understanding of the situation was that most of the funding was there and the final part was contingent on a specific start date. When that start date couldn't be made I'm not sure what happened specifically to the budget per se. Certainly - as is the often the case in film/tv making - there's no guarantee that all the money that was there before will be there at a later date. However everyone who was connected with it liked David's script. > How up to date is the script and how much can you tell us about it? Wendy(Please don't answer with "buy the magazine"<g>) Well, a lot of it WAS in the magazines. ;) Let's see (from memory)...after a very interesting robbery (in which Methos particpates in one version) it becomes obvious that there is one very dangerous Immortal taking heads and hunting specific Immortals to take their heads. Or are they? The story sees a band of Immortals who would normally be after each other's heads band together to find a secret linked to this mysterious hunter and *part* of the secret of their immortality. The last script I saw (one of four) was apparently written by Peter Briggs and though I wasn't a huge fan of the over-all concept of the story, it's tons better than the the versions he inherited. The first, by Joel Soisson (who I now think is taking another pass at it) guest-starred Duncan living in an out-of-the-way gas station, chain-smoking and drinkign and his sole companion... a monkey called Connor. Kinda makes Endgame look like Shakespeare. At least Briggs' version acknowleged certain TV continuity and even had a few subtle nods to the first film.
