I have taped all 22 episodes when they aired in reruns last year. They have weird production number and are not always shown in the same order; one network showed them in production number which is erroneous. The other showed them in sequence order which makes a little more sense. It made me realised the parallell with the first season of HL. I wonder if you will lose four minutes again when you see these for the first time. Don`t forget this show predates AP alien show, the whatsitsname show that still reruns here (CNE does not run anymore however). And that Cameron depiction of an alien is nice :) Won't comment on the show but ... Aw, now I'm jealous, because those darn Scifi people here quit airing it....without even finishing the series either time. I know some didn't think it was all that good, but even it was better than stuff like Tremors or Scare Tactics. Ohwell, that's Scifi....They quit showing FK as well. (I need to get all 119 write-ups posted again someplace, but haven't had the time to mess w/ it.) The very best HL:TS reviews & commentary is, I think, on the HAM site. I could spend DAYS there.... http://members.tripod.com/~theheasleys/reviews.html The page for this ep in particular is-- http://members.tripod.com/~theheasleys/reviews/archive/arch_h_tlatt.txt Nina mac.westie@verizon.net EPISODE: THE LADY AND THE TIGER AIRDATE: 4-19-93 CAST: Adrian Paul (Duncan MacLeod), Alexandra Vandernoot (Tessa Noel), Stan Kirsch (Richie Ryan) GUEST CAST: Elizabeth Gracen (Amanda), Jason Isaacs (Zachary Blaine), Pierre Gerald (Henry Lamartine), Michael Hofland (Bavarian Officer) WRITTEN BY: Philip John Taylor DIRECTED BY: Robin Davis NETWORK: Syndicated GRADE: B REVIEW: "The Amazing Amanda" with her daring high-wire circus act is also Immortal Amanda from Duncan's past love life. Sheepish now when he takes Tessa and Richie to the circus and they all chat, Duncan says Amanda is "Just a bad habit." Actually, she is a thief. Back in 1804 Bavaria, Amanda and Duncan were lovers. He surprised her, returning from a trip to Munich as she was fleeing with her jewel-thieving partner, Immortal Zachary Blaine, one step ahead of the authorities. She distracted Duncan with love-making before sneaking off in the night; in a typical Amanda ambiguity, she left Duncan a signet ring from the booty--as a memento or to frame him? Amanda and Duncan have been together many times over the centuries. He disapproves of her tendency to steal and hates the way she always leaves him holding the bag, but he cannot stay mad at her--she can always make him laugh. Now, Amanda tries to rekindle the romance. Amanda-"Come with me." Duncan-"No.thanks.I've already had that pleasure." Recently, Amanda staged her own death and framed the troublesome Blaine, to get rid of him; he was imprisoned but escaped and now spares her life only when she promises him Duncan's head plus a fortune from her planned museum heist of a rare book. Tessa is suspicious and instantly jealous of Amanda despite Duncan's reassurance--"Listen, young lady, she's no competition." Richie is smitten with the sensuous Immortal. When Duncan gets in the way of her plans, Amanda has her circus cronies capture him; he escapes by showing off an old circus act of his own--knife-throwing while horse-back riding. Duncan foils the heist and fights Blaine, but Amanda steps in at the end to behead Blaine. She makes one last play for Duncan, but he chooses Tessa. Amanda--"She's going to get old." Duncan--"I don't care." Amanda broke the Immortals' rule of one-on-one fighting when she stepped in and beheaded Blaine. They should have noticed Richie's pre-Immortal buzz when he was following them. According to later episodes, Duncan and Amanda met several times between this episode and back in 1926 at Barnum and Bailey (as detailed in "Money No Object")--the writers just had not realized it at this early point. The ruffled white shirt Duncan pulls on at the end of the flashback is the same one Amanda wears in current action 2 scenes later (meeting Blaine). The perfect foil for the brooding, moralistic Duncan, Amanda is a fun, clever and flamboyant character, and Elizabeth Gracen becomes a welcome recurring player in later seasons. The sizzling flashback love scene here demonstrates the chemistry between her and Adrian Paul. Amanda appears in a total of 18 series episodes; she went on to one season of adventures in Highlander: The Raven. In Raven's "Full Disclosure," Amanda repeats one of her lines from this episode--"A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do." Raven's "The Devil You Know" uses a clip of Amanda in the hoist stealing the book, and dialogue there states that the rare book she stole here was The Guttenberg Bible. Raven's "The Frame" twice uses a clip of the deserted museum steps with stone lion. Raven's "Love and Death" uses the phone booth in the Quickening explosion. Official sources credit Amanda with several surnames including Darrieux, LeFauve, Rochelle, Montrose and DuPar; she was born in 820 in St. Anne, dying in 850--killed for robbing a plague-ridden hovel, as will be shown in "Legacy." Blaine was born in 1712 Hamburg, first dying in 1748 when a jealous fellow performer sabotaged his tightrope. Elizabeth Gracen's acting career was preceded by a stint as Miss America 1982, hailing from Arkansas. The Euro-version includes a scene with Blaine at a sword store; finally satisfied with his choice, he kills the store owner rather than paying by cash or charge, exiting on "I won't leave home without it." Duncan chats with Amanda after his first fight with Blaine is interrupted; she offers to swear on a Bible that she never saw the other guy before, just as she offers to thank Duncan properly for his services, but he declines.
