I bet those nasty Highlander people will even be running *gasp* advertisements for this new show. Oh the horror. The horror. Well, I doubt they will be advertising here on the list, which was the topic at hand. But no horror--when people are advertising the sale of things they actually have a legal & moral right to sell. Or when they promote things like upcoming magazine issues here _in addition to_ actual on-topic discussion--rather than in lieu of it. Just because I'm feeling all warm, fuzzy and festive let me reword my original posting so that it reflects Nina's delicate sensibilities: Let's talk about what we'd like to see in a future Highlander TV project because, strangely enough Impact has a really special exclusive about what really IS in the works for next year and that issue an be ordered online should you not feel jaded with the whole franchise. And Nina, my ilk has a queue. Gah...someone give Nina a cookie, please. Give her some warm fuzzies. I think she's feeling unloved. :( My personal view on this: sure, spread the love of HL. If it's related, post it. *shrugs* This includes the announcement of articles related to HL. Thank you very much for posting about it, John. I know that without your post, I wouldn't have known about the mag. The thing that made HL:TS special was a main character who they weren't afraid to mess with, someone who changed, matureed and developed both through time (flashbacks) and in response to present-day events. DM make mistakes and was sometimes even the bad guy, and the writers and actors took some really big dramatic risks. The writing was usually not bad, frequently good and sometimes really exceptional because they took on some tough Talmudic issues that didn't have a 'right' answer. The ensemble was strong, and the focus not always on the main guy. By the third season each had his/her own strengths and weaknesses, i.e. a fully fleshed out character and not some dumb stereotype (well, except for Charlie deSalvo, who seemed to perpetually be watching DM's retreating back and saying, "MacLeod!"). What I fear they will do is stick to the trite and easy. It won't be easy to find the combination of a character like Duncan MacLeod with an actor who has the chops to handle the action and the dramatic sequences. The one thing they could do that would make me watch initially would be to hire David Abramowitz as creative director. Then it might have a chance. For that matter, some naughty twit on a HL list or forum is bound to shamefully violate John by posting the article in full, so.... > And Nina, my ilk has a queue. Sure, do that. But don't look for any more coverage if issues don't sell first time around. Catch 22 - and it's not really as if Impact costs a helluva lot anyway. For that matter, some naughty twit on > a HL list or forum is bound to shamefully violate John by posting the > article in full, so.... I'm sure no-one here would do that and most people at the HL Forum know better as well. Nina idly: ...wonders why Impact isn't on my Borders shelves, like its UK genre mag competitors? It is available through most of the US Borders, Barnes & Nobles and International News stands. If previous issues haven't sold well in that area, some branches may not carry it regularly. It's also available in Australia. My Borders and Barnes & Noble really, really suck. The B&N is better than Borders, though, barely. I bought my only copy of Impact at the HL convention in 1998. I wonder if either of them do special orders for mags. *ponders* Jen John said: > It is available through most of the US Borders, Barnes & Nobles and > International News stands. See that lovely gentleman/lady behind the counter? Walk towards them and say you'd like them to get you a copy. No. Really. Try it.
