I'll just be glad when this whole arc is over. Oh, and Mac...what were you thinking doing that haircut? I miss the long hair!!!! (was that becuse AP thought he was done with the series?) How'd they do that with Richie and Tessa...I know they can minipulate stuff with the computer...but I never figured out how they could do voices without the actors there. As far as the rest of the series went, I felt his demise was neither good nor bad for the series. I am not a big Richie fan, but I did enjoy seeing the scampish fellow get into all sorts of trouble! And certainly one of the good parts of the series was watching him grow from an "annoying teenager" to a (somewhat impetuous but also likeable) man. Had the series continued to a seventh season (no mean feat for even the finest of shows), I think Richie would have been missed. While we had Duncan, along with the recurring roles of Joe, Methos and Amanda, Richie filled a role which the others did not. ....Greg.... gmate@rogers.com He Who Still Likes To Needle The Richie Fans On Occasion ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Sep 2003 08:41:34 -0700 From: Gregory Mate <gmate@rogers.com> Subject: Re: Archangel Mel: >What's ILM? But I don't get >it....who is she? Or was it supposed to be anyone in >particular? The one with the nails is Cassandra. Back when Comes a Horseman/Revelations 6:8 was first broadcast, there was a discussion on why the character of Cassandra had long nails in the Bronze Age flashback. This was due to the actress (Tracy Scoggins) wanting to keep the nails, presumably because of other projects or else she just liked them. The nails didn't fit with the character, so it became an ongoing joke. >Mel (my ending: After the AAA trilogy, Duncan wakes up >kicking and screaming and going "it was all a dream, >it was all a dream...." while he's hugging on to a >very confused Richie(<snort>)(If it weren't for all >the good post- S1 eps, I'd place him waking up back >there with Tessa....(no Anne! "I'm not Methos, ****zzziiipppp******* I'm Horton!" "And I'm not Joe, ******zzziiiiipppp***** I'm Kalas!" Duncan looks shocked. Wavy background to simulate dream sequence. Duncan wakes up in bed in a sweat. "Oh thank goodness Tessa, it was all a dream." Richie turns in bed beside Duncan, grinning. Duncan looks at the camera and screams as the camera pulls away. ....Greg.... gmate@rogers.com He Who Is Really Late For Work Now ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Sep 2003 07:32:07 -0700 From: FKMel <sgt_buck_frobisher@yahoo.com> Subject: Re: Achangel "...a take off on the Pepsi Twist Ozzy commercial" (okay, that wasn't the exact quote, but I'm trying not to go back into my inbox for fear I'll get held up with more mail) <Snip> <Snort, giggle> I love it, Gregory! The idea of Duncan killing Richie was fine...it was just the reason for it that was awful (IMGLO) From almost day one - no *from* day one - we had Duncan and Richie face-to-face with swords in their hands. Richie's death at Duncan's hand was foreshadowed more than once and Richie asked directly if one day they would have to face each other. If I were king <eg> ...er...the writer, and I knew that 1) there might not be a Season 6 and 2) that TPTB wanted to remove Richie whether or not there was a Season 6, I would have spent Season 5 building up to a Duncan /Richie showdown. The set-up was there from Season 4 with SW and Deliverance. The first part of Season 5 even supports this possibility with the real estrangement that exists between Duncan and Richie in EOI and Haunted. I would have developed some plot line that pushed the two onto colliding paths - with Joe and Methos picking sides and offering advice/warnings/witty asides as always. How hard would it have been to move Richie into some activity that Duncan didn't approve of? Or mix him up with some character that Duncan hated? Or, for that matter, have Duncan show signs of his past craziness and have Richie be the one who thinks "never again"? Instead of trying to build up some bigger and badder Evil for Duncan to fight (who ever said each season's vil! lain had to top the past one?)(Oh, yeah....Joss Weadon) have the season show the course of a relationship's total destruction. *Then* have the big fight and have Duncan whack Richie - on purpose - in the heat of "battle". Then let him deal with *that* when he looks down at Richie's headless body. (And, sure, we saw Duncan have to kill lots of friends but never a current friend. They were always old friends who showed up "changed" and in need of shortening.) I, on the other hand, wasn't hiding, but I really wasn't much interested in the AAA discussion this time around. That arc, DM's silly haircut (plus sillier big stick, crappy clothes, boring attitude, absurd Range Rover, annoying old friends, unusually poor taste in women, & gaping absences), & the series' sorry denouement are all depressing. I did think about revising Wendy's hot-chick-enters-bar series ender scenario to something about the "lady" lifting the scarf only to have a wig come off, too, & drop to the floor next to size 13 pumps--causing both DM & Methos to go pale & gag at their close call, thus crushing the wet dreams of slashers everywhere, but it hardly seemed worth the time to post.... I don't see many specific answers to legal questions there. Except for the specific legal decision that a treatment for a Rocky film was ruled a copyright violation due to the Rocky characters being clearly delineated, despite the fact they were used in a new situation. Certainly, DM & the other HL characters have been just as clearly delineated over the course of 4 films, 119 series eps, & 22 (crappy) Raven eps. So, HL fanfic using these characters is copying, derivative, & in violation of DPP's copyright. Other than that, most of what is at this site is rather obviously pro-fanfic speculation, boot-strapping, day-dreaming, &, well, idiocy.
