I didn't figure they were really worth waiting and running around from store to store to find. It's worth more to me to have them just show up on my doorstep. And, I figure that if by some chance there's something spectacular on those special disks, I'll see it somewhere, either at a fan gathering or via a taped copy. ~ Becky OK, I'll admit some greed on my part. I was able to pick up a set easily because I wanted the extra footage. For me, I think it was worth having an extra set I now need to unload, even with the glitch in Epitaph for Tommy. I'm surprised nobody, to my knowledge, that is, has discussed the extra footage. There was a section in it significant enough to me to make me call a fellow fan long distance so she could hear what I heard and to see if it had the same impact on her as well. I'm waiting this time around...just to see if there ends up being three versions of season three as there was of season two. What's the third version of season 2? There's the regular set and the Best Buy one with the extra AP/AV/SK interivew. Was the one from the HL Store different from those? As for waiting, I'm doing the same. While deepdiscountdvd has a good price, I think that's their typical price so not likely to change. I did check the Best Buy site to see what their price was and it was much higher then what they charge for Season1 and S2. It seemed a bit odd but I've seen them have `retail list price' for things that won't be out for awhile and then drop the price to typical `cheap BB price' once it gets closer to the actual release. Kindof a strange way to do it but I wouldn't be suprised if they do the same for HL. =}{= (heidi@bronze.lcs.mit.edu) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Aug 2003 09:39:28 EDT From: Highlandmg@aol.com Subject: Re: Seaon 3 DVDs Hi I ordered my season 2 highlander dvd a while before they were released. I then heard the Best Buy was adding an extra. I canceled my deep discount order. Best Buy always lists the lists price. You should know a least two weeks before hand if Best Buy has extra's. I am just going to wait I paid 49.99 at best buy the cheapest anywhere I got them the day they were on shelves but I found out some Best Buys had them on selves a week before. Specific complaints: - whoever "directs" Bill Davis' comments needs to practice more. Angles shift from tight closeups, so we lose his chin and the top of his head, to side shots to shots that are slightly further away. (This is also especially noticeable in the Best of Highlander videos. Horrendous directing.) ("Get a really tight shot on this one, Ted. I want to be able to count the pores on his nose!") - Bill Davis' comments are usually not worth the electrons they use up. One (from the first season) was a complaint about a contract issue with a French guest star. This season he hasn't added much. He also does not appear to be comfortable in front of the camera, and I feel uncomfortable watching him be uncomfortable. David Abramowitz is much better, but there isn't very much of him. - I was highly amused at the segment when you could clearly hear the beeping of a truck backing up behind Bill's comments (they are filmed outside, obviously). - One of the extra bits was how they had to shoot 3 takes before they got one where you couldn't see the outline of Adrian's wireless mike under his clothes. Sorry, but that just didn't add much for me. Another one was "this is why we didn't shoot in the elevator while it was moving. It's too noisy". - Some episodes allegedly have video and/or audio commentary (haven't tried them yet), but so far it's darned few. - The extra scenes, at least on my set, have an icon that looks like a quickening icon ... lightening. Who knew they were extra bits?? I like the DVDs for the episodes, but the alleged extras are not worth much, at least so far, IMNSHO. Or must we live in suspense? My apologies...at work and slightly ailing with my husband's leftover stomach 'thing'. I've not been in the HL fandom as long as some, but for as long as I *have* been, it seemed that AP made the distinction between himself and Duncan MacLeod crystal clear. What I heard in the commentary on the Best Buy set, he was discussing Studies in Light and how meaningful the episode was. While he was talking, he switched from speaking about Duncan and referring to him as 'he', to speaking about himself and saying ' I '. From "he loved Linda," to "I loved Linda," sort of thing. And yeah, it was enough for me to call someone who'd been around alot longer and get her opinion on it. It seemed to stand out very clearly to me, but was waiting to see if anyone else would comment on this. I liked the interviews with Stan Kirsch and Alexandra Vandernoot and thought it was worth the expense and hassle of going to Best Buy.
