"Technology folks" who wish to communicate effectively generally learn,
sooner or later, that good grammar and spelling facilitate communication.
You repeatedly protest that other list members are failing to understand
what you're saying, perhaps deliberately. A case might be made that the
problem is your communication skills.

I was trying to stay out of this thread...yeah, Richie was a whiny punk.
Just like some of my freshman students. (College freshmen, obviously.)
Some of them are quiet and do everything without complaint. Some of them
want to argue about their grades.
And then this thread just deteriorated, like cotton candy in a monsoon.
But being the Anal Retentive Grammarian (pat. pend) that I am, I really
couldn't let the following go by:

I beg to differ that "folks focusing on grammar" don't use reasoning. If
that were so, then grammar would be completely arbitrary--which would make
lots of people very happy. I submit that every time one makes a
punctuation mark, one has to think about not only what is the proper mark,
but what is the most *effective* one. Like my little dash up there. (I
love dashes!) I had to ask myself, "How does the final clause relate to
the rest of the sentence?" I could have made it a sentence fragment, or a
dependent clause.

It looks like we won't have as long of a wait for the Season 3 DVD set as
we did between S1 and S2. I just found this on the Anchor Bay website.
HIGHLANDER: THE SERIES - Season Three in November 2003
Following the success of our recent release of the first season of the
HIGHLANDER television series, Anchor Bay and Davis/Panzer Productions will
be releasing the next season nationwide in July 2003 with the remaining
seasons to follow at regular (TBD) intervals after that.
It was at www.anchorbayentertainment.com, go to `Coming Attractions', then
`In The Future' at the bottom of the page.

Partly from anecdotal evidence, and partly because I find it hard to
believe it isn't so. Most folks replying to this thread have actually
said he is annoying, but many contend he's a good character to have
nonetheless.
Anyway, my opinion in that regard is based solely on reckoning, and
isn't anything to be taken as me making a universal value judgement.

Methos: I like him.

Mostly, Charlie and Richie stand out. It seems like Richie is really
meant to be Mr. Bad Ass, but doesn't pull it off. And well Charlie, I

I'm using evolution on gentoo. Shows up ok for me with different
colors, etc. Is this better?

meaning of any point I was trying to make.

There is a line one can cross, and beyond that line everything is
nit-picking. That line is defined by the difference between mistakes
that make something unintelligible, and those mistakes which do not make
it impossible to understand what someone is saying.
Although the terms I used are way too broad, I contend that those folks
who nit pick and devote their lives to bickering over semantics do not,
in fact, reason well. This is because they choose to ignore that the
meaning of the sentence had not been lost, and use a minor syntactical
error to straw man a whole discussion.

I actually didn't give much thought to the Best Buy extras. I didn't figure
they were really worth waiting and running around from store to store to
find. It's worth more to me to have them just show up on my doorstep. And,
I figure that if by some chance there's something spectacular on those
special disks, I'll see it somewhere, either at a fan gathering or via a
taped copy.
