Today I am the proud owner of the season 2 DVD's. Not the Best Buy ones (didn't feel like driving nearly 1 hour round trip to save $5 and get a few extra interviews) so I picked up the 8 DVD Anchor Bay set from Futureshop ($80 cdn + tax, works out to about $60 US with the exchange so I'm happy). Got the cheesy medallion, $5 coupon for HL Store junk, chance to win the T-Bird (I'm about as likely to win anything in a contest as to stick myself with a knife and wake up an Immortal), and of course the DVD's. They didn't have Season 1 in, or I would have bought it as well. When Greg said: (I'm about as likely to win anything in a contest as to > stick myself with a knife and wake up an Immortal) It made me wonder. Is there anywhere in canon (or anywhere else for that matter) where an immie is 'born' as a result of a suicide? Geez, wouldn't that be the ultimate bummer - resolved to end it all, only to discover that you can't. ~ Becky ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Aug 2003 10:12:15 -0400 From: Wendy Tillis <immortals_incorporated@cox.net> Subject: Re: Suicide and immortality? Already depressed (or hopeless)(or crazy) enough to commit suicide, discovering you were Immortal could push you further around the bend. I doubt such Immortals would last long (Quentin Barnes got himself hung in short order). OTOH, perhaps some people wake up from their ultimately unsuccessful suicide attempt and feel better. Life is suddenly a lot more interesting than they thought. You know, I've been thinking about trying to find a place to donate mine. The local hospital library, a shelter for teens, _someplace_. 'Cause yeah, I don't expect to be able to sell them for much (if at all), and it's a hassle, and I'd rather just give them to somebody who might still make good use of them... The contestant ended up picking it but didn't win....anyway, I sat there thinking "Is there a way to stop off and pay Mac a visit?" LOL. Of course, if there was, I'd end up saying "just go on and I'll stay here...pick me up if you come back this way." ROFL. They showed the barge btw and it was different colors than Mac's but it still reminded me of the HL one (ones really). It was a Halloween week ep and I also couldn't help laughing a bit at Anthony Stewart Head, who showed up in a Robin Hood costume. At one point, he had a fake arrow sticking out of his chest and I couldn't watch without thinking "Immortal! he's an immortal!" LOLOL. You know, I still find myself pondering whether those two shows' Watchers have any connections at all....I know they're different...Buffy Watchers do get involved...but I can't help pondering LOL. Maybe it's a special secret division that's got different rules than the main Watcher corps. I know, I have too much time on my hands. Wendy-- >>> Michael Moore was a suicide according to the Watchers Chronicle. Unable to kill himself permanently, he became the evil Quentin Barnes in his spare time.>>> And it fits--he was totally ineffectual as a good guy. At the end, he begged DM to finish the job he started. No other suicides-turned-Immie in the series that I ever noticed. (Felicia pretended to end her mortal life by jumping off that building, but in fact she was raped & killed by highwaymen in the 1700's, per the WCD.) Danny Cimoli "suicided" twice nightly (3 shows on Saturday) as his circus act. At the other end of things, the Hermit in DM's Archangel flashback beheaded himself--whether to pass on his Chosen One mantle to DM via the Q, or just because he was nutso. In Endgame, Connor did much the same on that rooftop. Probably, a lot of disenchanted Immies viewed combat as a handy way out--Brian Cullen in Courage comes to mind, though he certainly made DM pay the physical & emotional price for ending his life for him. Also, Warren Cochrane clearly preferred not to continue living w/ what he'd done. I'm sure there are others. Forcing one's friend to do the deed is a particularly unpleasant form of assisted suicide, I think; go find a stranger Immie & let _him_ put you out of your misery. >>> OTOH, perhaps some people wake up from their ultimately unsuccessful suicide attempt and feel better. Life is suddenly a lot more interesting than they thought.>>> Sounds like Methos. Now, THAT would be ironic. Although once a year at a secret location they have special competitions, sort of like the old Battle of the Network Stars. Only reason the HL Watchers have the tattoos is that they've won every year running. ....Greg.... gmate@rogers.com He Who Hopes The Season Five Cheesy Medallion Has A Picture Of Duncan Taking Richie's Quickening ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Aug 2003 17:42:15 -0700 From: Gregory Mate <gmate@rogers.com> Subject: Re: HL Season 2 sets?
