They planned to cut the trees down to return Drummossie to it's original state - however there was also a legend about Scotland would only have it's own parliament when the birds sang on Drummossie Muir again - of course cutting the trees down would stop the birds singing. Hence the big row about it. The trees got cut down anyway. Now they are also starting to acknowledge more and more that it was a civil war Scot against Scot not Scot against the English. So when you do visit honour all those who died fighting for what they thought was right and best they were nearly all Scots.
