Duncan didn’t even remember getting to the hospital. He went to the emergency room desk and a haggard looking nurse looked up at him. “I got a call about Kelly Granger? She was in an accident?” The nurse looked up at the incredibly handsome man in front of her, and the pain and concern in his dark eyes would have melted a much harder heart than hers. “Are you a family member?”, she asked. “Not exactly. She’s my…fiancée”, Duncan said. The nurse gave him a stern look. “OK. Come with me.” She led him through a double door and into a flourescently-lit hallway littered with gurneys and wheelchairs. Finally they stopped in front of a small room, and she ushered him in. There was an EMT there, shaking his head as he answered questions from what was apparently an ER doctor. Duncan looked around them and saw Kelly sitting on the hospital bed, looking dazed, and in some discomfort, but not a lot of pain. He overheard the EMT defending himself against the onslaught of the Doctor, who obviously was accusing him of gross incompetency. “She HAD NO PULSE and WAS NOT BREATHING. She was DEAD.” The EMT was trying very hard not to lose control, his jaws clenched shut. The doctor just had a disgusted look on his face. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo!
