Been awhile, hasn't it? I've been busy. First, I'll be busy and disclaim (is disclaim a word? Can you tell who's been up all night on call at the Veteran's Hospital, admitting sick patients, trying to kept an inept intern from killing anyone?) I'm not making any money on Highlander, Michelle Webster, Matt Brennan, Amanda, Anne Lindsay, the Boston Red Sox, William Shakespeare or Les Miserables. All of these people - real and imagined - appear in this short story. I don't own any of the above, except for Matt, and my vision of his "niece," Michelle Webster the Wellesley Junior about to become a Harvard or Yale Law 1-L. I actuallly wrote Matt's email to Michelle almost a year ago, last May, when I was working in the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) as therapy one night when I came home and wanted to swallow a sword. It was too raw then to send to anyone except my closest personal friends. With some time, I've been able to gain some perspective. The wound has healed somewhat. I'm better. The mom and dad in question are better, and "richard" is actually doing fairly well. He has a dismal prognosis, but he's going pretty well. And he is a joy to his parents, which is the most important thing of all. I think I've said quite enough. I didn't ask anyone to beta this, so you'll have to deal with its imperfections and for that, I apologize. It may even suck, for which I *really* apologize. If you want to drop me feedback, you're more than welcome to. Feedback is, after all, the only compensation we fanfic writers receive. Thanks for listening to me ramble. g'night. rj ********************************************************* RJ Ferrance, DC, MD Combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Chief Resident Medical College of Virginia Hospitals Richmond, VA 23298 rferrance@vcu.org http://views.vcu.edu/~medtoast/anvil.html
