Sounds to me like a really bad rehash of Endgame. Sounds like a bad rehash of ... oh hell ... it just sounds bad. The whole concept is deeply flawed. The "source" of immortality? There are a limited number of options, broadly categorized as : 1) different planet 2) scientific i.e. mutant genes/evolution, 3) outside interference/God 1) different planet - been there, done that. While HL-2 was a bad movie, the rational of where Immortals came from wasn't totally awful. Aliens with advanced technology allowing them to move beings of their species to another planet but with the glitch that they arrive as babies and that the arrival time is random. It explains why immortals are different (they are aliens), why they can't have children (no interspecies breeding) and why they fight (on-going war carried to a new venue). Unfortunately , HL-2 was so bad that it spoiled the concept of alien Immortals forever. 2) Scientific- mutant genes are boring. 3) Outside interference/God - Some outside force created Immortals for some purpose . This seems to be where "The Source" is headed although from the bits of script floating around, the execution sounds like shite. A glowing column of light (which is itself unexplained) created Immortals and set them out among the humans to gain long-term knowledge and wisdom which can then be used to help the poor mortals. Um...Ok. A few questions. What is the glowing column of light - where did it come from, why does it care about mortals, etc. If the idea was to have Immortals live long lives to learn "stuff" to be used to help mortals- why have them, in fact, spend all their time killing each other? Is that really a productive use of an Immortal's time? As it is now, the "good" Immortals (the ones who prefer books to beheadings) are the most likely to be killed. If that whole "Game" thing wasn't part of the original plan, why didn't the glowing column of light step in and do something to correct it? What's in it for the Immortals involved or are they just tools? > How low can they sink? Does the Mariana Trench ring any bells? <EFG> > > Nina (the whole thing makes me feel queasy) > > Ditto. They have open minds willing to accept the possibility that all the pre-release news has been wrong. They are happy people who refuse to pre-judge a movie before seeing it, no matter how many times they have been disappointed before. They are good people who think 86 minutes with AP and PW on a big screen is heaven - no matter what. They are the lucky few who can sift through all the dreck and find that one bit of hope that Duncan will get nekkid and have wild on-screen sex with Methos. The rest of us poor cynical jaded bastards know that this thing is going to be bad. The acting may be good (it's possible), the scenery may be beautiful (if it wasn't all shot at night) and the editing may be stellar (if the completion bond company hires Conrad Buff IV) but the basic plot is, very likely, crap. Wendy (Maybe TPTB will surprise us and we'll discover that Immortals really are fairies.)(Not that there is anything wrong with being a fairy) Immortals Inc. immortals_incorporated@cox.net "Weasels for Eternity" ------------------------------ End of HIGHLA-L Digest - 2 Nov 2006 to 3 Nov 2006 (#2006-8) ***********************************************************
