I'm trying to get a clearer answer. To the question about archives, he says the default for the list server is to keep 2 months worth of archives, although he can go back and recreate about a year's worth, upon request. My response to him on that was that it was a nice offer, but the interest in the archives goes back for *years* and that the last 12 months or so are not of particular concern. Just keeping you updated on my lack of progress on solving the non-responsive moderator problem. Speaking of LJ land, there are several livejournal communities that have a fair amount of active discussion and fiction posting going on. They are the most active of the current HL fan lists, group, communities, etc., that I know about. You can bookmark the page and read and don't have to be a member of livejournal. You may be even able to post without having an lj identity (which doesn't cost anything, but the initial process is like any new thing - a little confusing until you get used to it), but I'm not certain. One community, call hl_flash, has periodic postings of summaries of discussions, fiction, pictures, information, etc., with links to those items. The various links are: HL Fiction and discussion: http://community.livejournal.com/highlander_lj/ HL fic recommendations: http://community.livejournal.com/highlander_rec/ More HL fic recs: http://community.livejournal.com/hl_recs/ HL Fiction posting: http://community.livejournal.com/highlander_fic/ Composite links to HL discussion, fiction, pictures, miscellaney: http://community.livejournal.com/hl_flash/ MacGeorge ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Jul 2006 12:21:16 EDT From: Dotiran@aol.com Subject: Re: moderator issues In a message dated 7/25/2006 12:01:20 PM Eastern Daylight Time, kageorge1@verizon.net writes: >>>1) Limp along the way we are (the guy at .psu says he'll be happy to deal with occassional spamming issues or other problems.) Nope. LJ just doesn't do anything for me. I can't get "into" it. It's way too complicated to find out how to find anything on LJ. It seems more "ingroup" than lists. Really sorry about the archives. Quite a loss. I do have some of the more classic posts stashed somewhere but on discs my computer no longer reads. Sigh. I could, technically get some of it restored, but life's other priorities don't really give me an option of spending my time hunting for them. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Jul 2006 12:24:59 EDT From: Dotiran@aol.com Subject: Re: moderator issues In a message dated 7/25/2006 12:14:08 PM Eastern Daylight Time, kageorge1@verizon.net writes: >>>HL Fiction and discussion: http://community.livejournal.com/highlander_lj/ HL fic recommendations: http://community.livejournal.com/highlander_rec/ More HL fic recs: http://community.livejournal.com/hl_recs/ HL Fiction posting: http://community.livejournal.com/highlander_fic/ Composite links to HL discussion, fiction, pictures, miscellaney: http://community.livejournal.com/hl_flash/ _______________________ Not into fiction at *all* , So none of those sites are things I would frequent. Sorry. Maybe it is because I am a writer by profession. But don't write fan fic. And don't even care to read it. I would go with starting a new list. I'd happily join, but I won't unsub from this one because I promised Debbie I wouldn't leave until she closed it down. I dislike LJ as they are so graphics intensive and all the "squee!!" kind of thing drives me crazy. Everybody else is welcome to go off to LJ but I won't be joining them. Much of the highlander_lj conversation is about episode discussion and has nothing to do with fanfic. MacG NOTE: As an aside, there are numerous fan fics that are substantially superior to any "professionally" written fictional efforts (especially the published HL novels, which range from mediocre to plain bad), but I would never presume to hold anyone's personal preferences against them. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Jul 2006 19:57:04 -0400 From: Heidi <heidi@bronze.lcs.mit.edu> Subject: Forever Knight S3 DVDs (No HL) Since there are a fair number of Forever Knight fans on the list, if you didn't know, the Season 3 dvd set has actually been announced. According to TVshowsOnDvD it will be out in October. The info is at- www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=6118 (And since I know there are Pretender fans on the list, the Season 4 set came out last week, now we just have to wait for them to release the tv movies.) =}{= (heidi@bronze.lcs.mit.edu) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Jul 2006 01:39:25 GMT From: "toujoursenbluejeans@juno.com" <toujoursenbluejeans@juno.com> Subject: re moderator I'm staying here, altho I don't post much - been here since 1995ish, I r= emember it was after Kip was gone but still referred to quite often - al= ong with cows and suchlike things.... I've been enjoying this list for a long time (I don't know how long, but it was just before Kip left, I think...), it's been fun.
