I wish you were right (& don't despair--at some point the law of averages _will_ come through for you). But in this case, the self-righteous blowhards got started early & pressured the network into a short order & a problematic mid-season release rather than a fall premiere; worse, NBC was cowed into airing the show on Friday night, pretty much guaranteeing a show like Book of Daniel would fail to find an audience. And of course sponsors aren't going to pay for ad time on a show that has idiot groups talking boycott, _unless_ it is a hit & bringing a huge number of non-idiot eyes to the screen. The show might well have gotten there, but it couldn't do so instantly--not in January on Fridays. But, enjoy the Law & Order repeats airing in its place. I doubt they will cause anyone to think about God at all. Debbie? "Book of Daniel" DEBBIE!!!!!!!!!! Trust me when I say I'm on no one's side in this particular kerfuffle, but regarding the short-lived "Book of Daniel" a simple google search on "Book of Daniel" + boycott yields these results: ----------- http://365gay.com/Newscon06/01/012406daniel.htm "The series was immediately targeted by the Christian right. The American Family Association called on its members to pressure stations to drop the series and issued veiled boycott threats against advertisers.. A number of stations throughout the Bible Belt refused to air the series, and several sponsors pulled out. But NBC insists it was ratings and not pressure from conservative Christian= s that sank the show. "The Book of Daniel" lost about a quarter of its viewers over its few weeks on the air. Nevertheless, the AFA declared victory. "This shows the average American that he doesn't have to simply sit back an= d take the trash being offered on TV, but he can get involved and fight back with his pocketbook," said AFA Chair Donald E. Wildmon in a statement Tuesday. " "We want to thank the 678,394 individuals who sent emails to NBC and the thousands who called and emailed their local affiliates." The AFA has a long history of boycotts and threats against companies that are perceived as gay friendly. --------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.axcessnews.com/modules/wfsection/article.php?articleid=3D7489 "(AXcess News) Hollywood - Several NBC affiliate stations have refused to air the new television series "The Book of Daniel" after a Christian watchdog blasted the program." --------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.righttrack.us/2006/01/06/boycott-nbcs-the-book-of-daniel/ I am sick to death of Christians being protrayed as loony, dysfunctional, hypocritial morons when the Christians that I know (and probably the ones you know, too) are nothing of the sort. This is absolutely the last straw. I'm encouraging all readers to call their local NBC affiliates<http://www.nbc.com/nbc/header/Local_Stations/>and tell them that you plan on boycotting not only their affiliate, but any advertiser who sponsors the show. Then follow that up with the major advertisers on the station and tell them that you are tired of Christians being portrayed in the manner that they usually are on TV, and that you will not spend *one red cent* of your money with any advertiser who sponsors "The Book of Daniel". They'll get their shot in on most stations, because only two that I've hear= d of have refused to air the program. Hopefully it will be their only shot, i= f enough people complain to enough advertisers. ----------------------------------------------- http://www.renewamerica.us/news/060113nbc.htm We at *RenewAmerica* are calling for a *NATIONAL BOYCOTT of all NBC shows*and a few advertisers (listed below) that endorse NBC's repugnant new show *"The Book of Daniel." *(formatting theirs, assuming it doesn't get nuked by the server)* * ------------------------------------------- DEBBIE!! For the love of (deity), please, step in and give Wendy what she wants!!!!!!!!! I'm posting in html now (again, assuming it doesn't get nuke= d by the servers)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And finally, the call to arms from the biggie, the American Family Association: http://www.afa.net/petitions/issuedetail.asp?id=3D175 *Please take action now!* Here is what you can do: *1. Call your local NBC affiliate and ask them not to air the program.* You can find their contact information in your local phone book or by Clicking Here <http://www.nbc.com/nbc/header/Local_Stations/>. *2. Print out a copy of AFA's pass along sheet, fill in the affiliate call letters and phone number, make copies and pass out at your church.* Ask you= r pastor to announcement it and put information in the bulletin and newsletter. [doc version]<http://www.afa.net/passalong/pdf/nbc_bookofdaniel2.pdf> [pdf version] <http://www.afa.net/passalong/pdf/nbc_bookofdaniel2.pdf> *3. If you haven't already done so, send an email to NBC by Clicking Here<https://secure.afa.net/afa/afapetition/takeaction.asp?id=3D175>. * The show was a target of boycotts, I don't think that can be denied. How effective those boycotts (real and perceived) were is, I presume, still a matter for debate. -- Kamil You see, wire telegraph is a kind of a very, very long cat. You pull his tail in New York and his head is meowing in Los Angeles. Do you understand this? And radio operates exactly the same way: you send signals here, they receive them there. The only difference is that there is no cat. --Albert Einstein ------------------------------ End of HIGHLA-L Digest - 27 Jan 2006 to 28 Jan 2006 (#2006-21) **************************************************************
