I ran around for years with a cardiologist, who always, without fail, introduced herself as Jane Smith. If you didn't already know she was a physician, well, you weren't going to find out about it from her -- at least not that way. On the other hand, there was this totally pretentious Miss Thang we had the misfortune to run into from time to time, and she had a PHD in something or the other. Nothing useful, I do remember that much. <eg> Anyway, she always *insisted* on being introduced as DOCTOR Mary Jones, and would correct *anyone* who dared leave the honorific off. So it was always a hoot when we'd be meeting new groups of people to let my friend introduce us all. It was great fun to hear her say, "This is DOCTOR Mary Jones, and I'm Jane Smith." I don't think Mary dear ever quite caught on to how much fun we all had snarking at her behind our hands over that. <weg> OBHR: Duncan would never insist on being introduced as "Dr." anything. Even if he was at the time. *Especially* if he was at the time. -- Kamil The Wave: Do you read Gandalf slash? Ian McKellan: Well, I'm quite a fan of pornography. I think it's a very good idea. I think it stops people from going out and hurting each other. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Aug 2005 09:11:26 -0400 From: Wendy <Immortals_Incorporated@cox.net> Subject: Re: Cheers for Debbie: HIGHLA-L is 12 > HIGHLA-L: > > August 11th, 1993 to present > > 12 YEARS AND COUNTING! > Hooray For Debbie, by Janine I'll second that "hooray"! He insisted on being addressed as Dr, especially on mail..... then discovered that his mail was going missing. We found that the mailman had been delivering it to the health centre down the street instead of to his house!
