SO predictable. I'll still keep the old screenname for use with AIM (instant messaging). The death knell for AOL came when I realized that Yahoo (which I've been using as a "shopping" address) has a very good music service. It seems kind of silly to pay the monthly charges "for old times' sake" when Yahoo and other email clients have much better free products. I wonder if AOL will be as hard to kill as an Immie? I've considered this for a couple of years. The old AOL HL boards are a shadow of their former selves, and now AOL no longer carries newsgroups so I have to get ATH through Google which is a pain. But, in fact, we are currently paying for both AOL and broadband Comcast cable [which has an email program included] because I've tried so many other accounts including hotmail and yahoo and earthlink and juno, but none of them has the beautiful and efficient email service that AOL has. Truly. The easy user interface, the extras, the great spam filters, the photo inserts, the Send later feature, just about everything about it is first rate. [I know, those of you who hate AOL won't agree, but I'm just talking about my own experience.] And yahoo in particular has such a small capacity for email it would never work for me. [And as for using Outlook Express for *anything*, it gives me a nervous breakdown. I've even physically removed it from my computer. Blech] ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 Aug 2005 12:03:28 -0400 From: Sandy Fields <diamonique@comcast.net> Subject: Re: 10 years or more of AOL is probably enough At 11:40 AM 8/8/2005, Dotiran@aol.com wrote: >But, in fact, we are currently paying for both AOL and broadband Comcast >cable [which has an email program included] because I've tried so many >other accounts including hotmail and yahoo and earthlink and juno, but >none of them has the beautiful and efficient email service that AOL has. Really? I dumped AOL years ago because of their horrible email service. Of course, it's possible that it's gotten a lot better since then. I switched to Earthlink at the time, and they have GREAT web email interface, spam filters, and everything you mentioned. I switched to Comcast (another great one) only because I wanted high speed and couldn't get it in my area with Earthlink. >Truly. And then there's gmail. <g> My current status says: You are currently using 153 MB (6%) of your 2474 MB. I have invites (fifty or so, I think), if there's anyone who'd like one and hasn't found onethough other sources. It's free, great spam filters, *huge* storage capabilities (that keep expanding. they started the service offering 1 gig of storage, now it's up to 21/2 gigs), a web interface that I find dead simple to use, google search tools so you can find your mail again in that two gig storage bin, etc, etc.. /gmail pimpage> -- Kamil The Wave: Do you read Gandalf slash?
