I remember that scene..and you're right..there wasn't any particular reason for it. But Tracker had a lot of those moments. From the start, Cole (and Adrian) was placed in scenes which objectified him. He "became" human as an underwear model, basically. They had him in skin tight pants more than once. I know the premise was to show this alien who didn't know how to dress or fit in but I thought they succeeded only in showing 1) how lovely Adrian's body is and 2) how little imagination the writers had.
Wendy(It would have been funny if half-way through Tracker we'd discovered that Cole had been a female alien and was now trapped in a *very* male body.)(It would have explained his early love of pink shirts.)(Then again, nothing could have saved Tracker.)

I've always had trouble buying this scenenario. I can certainly see Duncan being attracted to a woman and deciding to stick around and enjoy her hospitality -in bed and out- for a while. I have trouble seeing him doing it as a means of "support". I suppose it comes down to motive. Did he see the Duchess eyeing him and say to himself "If I pretend to enjoy her company and bed her well, she'll feed me." or did he see her eyeing him, feel flattered, and decide "If she offers me dinner, I won't refuse"?
I don't think I'm falling prey to a double standard (woman who sleep with men for food are whores, men who sleep with women for food are just charming rogues). I think it really does come down to motives in each case. I guess it's whether the person in need (Amanda /Duncan) sets out to trade sexual favors for sole purpose of obtaining food/money or whether they would have entered into the same relationship even if they had money of their own. In the particular case of the Duchess, I think Duncan would have been amenable even if he'd had a purse of gold tied to his horse. I can't remember ever seeing Duncan sleep with a woman *just* to get something he wanted (besides the sex itself). He's not a "user" (being the HERO after all<g>) Amanda is very much a user and I can certainly see her sleeping with someone to gain access to jewels, old paintings, a bank vault combination, etc.

Which scenes? They were in a whorehouse at one point (patrons, not employees) and I don't remember any sense that he and the Countess(?) with the necklace were in anything other than a "relationship" . Or am I mis-remembering something?

But what about his early relationship with Kristin. That one certainly
looked as if he was a "kept man".

Well, she had to burn his clothes & talk him into it. Her strategy was that
he needed to learn how the better half lived, & he rather reluctantly
conceded the point--plus, it looked like fun. I'm sure he was a model
student, probably an avid learner in some of the more intimate subjects; all
his later lovers owed a great debt to Kristin....
Sure, they had a less than completely romantic arrangement, but many couples
did & still do. That doesn't make one partner a whore or a gigolo. He
never seemed happy w/ the set-up; when he fell for the artist, he clearly
went w/ his heart. As he said--he was no silken fop, & he wasn't a gigolo
either.

My memory fails me....constantly...so I'm delurking long enough to check
canon:
Is FAMILY TREE the reall 2nd ep? If not what is? There are so many missing
pieces...how did Richie suddenly get so integrated into Mac and Tessa's
lives? No links are provided. I started watching in '95 and it was halfway thru
some season...so I got everything piece meal. Now I'm watching the
dvd's...WOW! Some difference!
