I agree, but that's not really the point. The movie that was released is the one that counts, and it was pretty bad. << Well then that's okay, because the movie that was released in the UK is the DVD version, because nothing else has ever been released here. Of course it could be that you don't count us. <EG> >> If the DVD version had been the one that was released in theaters, the thought of another movie might have put a smile on my face instead of making me want to kick something. :-) << Which is exactly the point I was making. If they had rushed the movie out had delayed it's release a few more months even although the fans were screaming at them then we'd maybe have got the better version.<sigh> Elaine. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Sep 2001 04:55:51 -0400 From: Elaine Nicol <ElaineN@compuserve.com> Subject: Re: HL5 Rumour >> It was called Endgame, but there wasn't end to the Game, unless you were Connor, I'd guess. << Could be the very point since it was supposed to be about Connor passing the Highlander torch to Duncan. >> It had a trailer built around scenes not intended to be in the film << A normal thing that movie companies do. I don't agree with it but they do. >> The press notes were wrong << Ah another not unusual occurrence. I've just been reading the Press stuff for Galaxy Quest, about Robin Sachs it says 'He also starred in such BBC classics as "Upstairs Downstairs," "Brideshead Revisited," and "Rumpole of the Bailey," among many others.' Now that may sound okay, but everyone of those series were made by ITV companies and had nothing whatsoever to do with the BBC. And that is just one example there are dozens. >> The editing was screwed up. << That's sloppy and should never have happened, well beyond the occasional silly thing so we can talk about it later. >> Naturally, they blamed the critics. << Well to be honest that's lame, apart from anything else any movie fan who goes to movies on the yes or no of a critic is just plain silly. I read critics, if they agree with my view then they are great if they don't then they are just stupid.<only kidding> Critics are there to give their opinion of a movie if you have the same taste as they have then you will agree with them. We have a critic here called Barry Norman - Generally if he likes a movie then I will hate it, if he hates it I will like it. He can still be very entertaining to read. Yes some critics think they can make or break a movie but it's the paying public who do that. Well when they get the chance. >> Next time, make the film YOU want to make and then present it to us, standing by what you claim on release << Actually I do agree with that completely. I hate all this tinkering with existing movies, not just with Highlander. By all means if you are releasing a DVD, put two versions on there, but generally speaking I want the version I saw first that's why I am buying it. Giving me interviews, behind the scenes stuff but give me the version I wanted in the first place. >> And 'The Source'? Ohhhhhhhhhh puhleeeeeeeease. I can't think of a single conitation of that title that doesn't make me want to cry. << Again that just personal taste4, as I say I like it. We might argue that the Watchers were playing with everyone......but I somehow doubt that was what TPTB meant. << Actually I just thought they were all playing games, well except Duncan who didn't appear to know what was going on at all. >> That's pushing it <g> especially since there were no MacLeods in "Raven". And...Amanda wasn't a Viking. Nick didn't strike me as the Nordic type, either << Well of course it is and that's what I was doing...if you try hard enough you can connect anything to anything and it can be fun evil twisted fun but fun<EG> >> excavating a tel in the Middle East and will uncover - slowly, layer by layer- the life story of Methos.<g> << Now that could be a movie worth watching.<BG> Elaine. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Sep 2001 09:42:58 EDT From: Bizarro7@aol.com Subject: Re: HL5 Rumour In a message dated 9/7/01 2:00:02 AM Eastern Daylight Time, renmacwow@hotmail.com writes: << Bill Panzer did "mention" it at Reunion.........actually, I was sitting in the lobby of the hotel when he arrived, and one of the people I was with said hello to him, and he walked over to talk to us for a moment. About the third or fourth sentence into the brief conversation was "You know we're working on a new movie, don't you?" I said (incredulously, I might add) "A Highlander Movie?" He said "Yeah, working title is 'The Source.'" I asked if this was a "non-disclosure" conversation and he said "No." I really don't know what that was all about, but I can say that I heard it from the horse's mouth (so to speak........) >> Despite what many thought of the movie (I happened to like quite a bit of it), ENDGAME made a ton of money in VHS/DVD release. This is the motivation behind MIRAMAX's decision to fund a new one...an offer that was made by the studio, not Davis/Panzer, and not to be taken lightly. As for everyone's comments about the hopelessness of a quality sequel after a crappy film, I have only 7 words: STAR TREK 2: THE WRATH OF KAHN. Writing is everything. Acting, costumes, filming and editing, music, the budget, the weather, the locations, the actors' schedules, and a whole host of various other things all play their parts. Wasn't poor editing blamed for some of the problems in the original release of EndGame? Elaine wrote: >The movie that was released in the UK is the >DVD version, because nothing else has ever been released here. Of course >it could be that you don't count us. <EG> I don't think anyone on any HL list can ever not count Scotland. :) But as far as the critics and the non-HL-fan public are concerned, the film released to the movie theatres was *the* film. That's the one most people will think of (If they remember it at all) when they hear the words "Highlander: Endgame." That's the film people were thinking of when they asked me in disbelief: "You *like* this show?" and I got to explain how, really, the TV show wasn't like that, and the plots sometimes actually made sense, and there was a lot more to Highlander than what showed up in the movie, and yes, Duncan, really *is* a nice guy, even if he does kill his teacher and his wife, and see, there's this thing called a Game and a Prize, and the Watchers are these people who ... oh, heck. Here, borrow these tapes of the Series. They'll explain it, and then maybe you can watch the movie and have some clue about what is going on. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Janeen at darkpanther@erols.com Webpage http://users.erols.com/darkpanther Email list: http://groups.yahoo.com/subscribe/J9G10Stories Connor Discussion List: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ConnorList/join ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- "There are no short stories.
