As in, when they dubbed it, they changed the dialogue? Yeah, they used to do that down here too when they'd dub things into Afrikaans. But to me, the original was always correct. Of course, down here the SABC used to change things on their own whims. If TPTB changed it for the French version, that's a different story. But the English Euro says, "I'd kiss you, but people might talk." - Marina. \\ "But then, we saw that Obi-Wan doth look upon ||>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> // // Qui-Gon with lust, and that Mr. Lucas was not || R I C H I E >> \\ \\ likely to include that in the next movie, so we ||>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> // // said screw it and wrote it ourselves." - Warning || \\ \\ page of the 'Master & Apprentice' slash site || // //=====tmar@fast.co.za====Chief Flag Waver and Defender of Richie=====\\ Regarding Voyager: Me: What happened to Seven? True generally, but there is an exception. In "Finale part 2," when Duncan and Amanda are at the top of the Eiffel Tower, and Amanda suggests jumping, Duncan says something like, "And you hit the ground at 125 miles per hour. You know what that feels like?" (I'm going from memory here, so it may not be exact.) Well, the French backers freaked out. It seems they didn't want it mentioned that someone might get hurt from the Eiffel Tower and insisted that the version airing in France not have that comment. So the dialog was changed to, "What, you think you can fly?" or similar-- but just on the Euro version. However, AFAIK, that's the only time dialog was actually *changed* for the Euro version from what it was in the domestic. Generally, they tried to find out any restrictions for the European audiences before filming. -- Claire Maier, Ph.D. bioaw124@emory.edu CLMaier (within AOL only) To be different is not necessarily to be ugly; to have a different idea is not necessarily to be wrong. In OMTM/Judgment Day, in the tango scene on Was the Euro version actually any different for Deliverance? I think the Euro version had the butcher scene, but the French station might have cut it when they aired the ep. Did the butcher scene appear in other countries airing the Euro version? I think the butcher scene was on the videotapes. In Finale part 2 (not OMTM/JD) they actually did dub in a new line of dialog for the Euros. -- Claire Maier, Ph.D. bioaw124@emory.edu CLMaier (within AOL only) To be different is not necessarily to be ugly; to have a different idea is not necessarily to be wrong. Actually, "American" version, "European" version, and "Eurominutes" are fan terms (although the TV ads for the tapes did use "European version"). The proper names for these things, respectively, are "Domestic version," "Foreign version" and "Domestic lifts." The foreign version is in English. The countries that use the foreign version (ie., all of them but the US), may dub them into their own languages, or cut them for length. (The foreign version is 48 minutes long, but not all countries use all 48 minutes. Some countries need a 46 minute length. The domestic version is 44 minutes.) But the foreign version is in English, and the line in Testimony is the same in the domestic and foreign versions. That the fans, and in at least in one case, TPTB, have called the foreign version the European version does not change its content. Now, the French-dubbed version of Testimony might have a different translation, but the other-language translations of Highlander never have the exact same meaning as the English. (It would be nice if people would use the same terminology as the rest of the list and not try to invent new meanings.) !crotchety -- Claire Maier, Ph.D. bioaw124@emory.edu CLMaier (within AOL only) To be different is not necessarily to be ugly; to have a different idea is not necessarily to be wrong.
